  - Casimir operator can also detect this number.
- spin is the most important case since they are the matter particles
- this is why we have half-integral spin although those representations have integral highest weights
- 스핀이 0인 입자의 스피너(성분이 하나)는 유니타리 변환에 대해 불변이다. 입자물리학에서 이러한 입자들을 스칼라 입자라 부른다.
- 스핀이 1인 입자의 스피너(성분이 세개)는 유니타리 변환에 대해 벡터처럼 변환한다. 입자물리학에서 이러한 입자들을 벡터 입자라 부른다. (ex. intermediate vector bosons)
- 스핀이 1/2 인 시스템은 SU(2) 군의 2차원 표현론과 관계있다.
- 스핀이 1 인 시스템은 SU(2) 군의 3차원 표현론과 관계있다.
- 스핀이 3/2 인 시스템은 SU(2) 군의 4차원 표현론과 관계있다.
